UNC Charlotte Colvard Breezeway

Bright Ideas for Campus Spaces

The Colvard Breezeway at UNC Charlotte is an open-air pedestrian space that connects the parallel wings of Colvard Hall. This example of 1970s and 1980s campus architecture has been reimagined with a burst of creativity, thanks to student-painted murals and thoughtfully placed outdoor furniture.

At the entrance to the breezeway, Maglin’s Pixel Collection makes a bold first impression. Designed to invite students to sit, connect, and create, the modular Pixel configuration transforms the space into a welcoming hub of interaction. The configuration features both backed and backless modules, with HDPE surface materials for ease of maintenance. More than just seating, Pixel is functional art—its clean lines and modular forms act as architectural accents that echo the breezeway’s linear geometry.

Bright, bold FORO Tables and Chairs add pops of color that echo the energy of the surrounding murals. These pieces help enhance the visual appeal of the space and serve as functional gathering points where students can socialize, study, or take a break between classes. The coordinated design of the furniture and murals fosters a cohesive, uplifting environment for the UNC Charlotte community.
